Art By Kayla Hixon
Introduction
Kayla Hixon is a local artist who grew up in the Bitterroot Valley. She attended and graduated from Corvallis High School, where she truly embraced her love for art. Her mom, husband, and high school teacher, Mr. Silkwood, have been and continue to be her biggest supporters, helping her through many doubts and fears, and encouraging her to make her art public. She grew up drawing frequently, which is reflected in her black and white painting style. While her passion growing up was drawing horses and animals, she has recently discovered a new love for painting and capturing the emotion in statues. She is fascinated by the idea of people's emotions being frozen in time for generations to see and has aimed to bring a different life and style to these pieces. As a manager of a local cleaning business and a busy mom of three boys, she is proud to finally have the time to pursue her passion for art.
Artistic Style
She enjoys working with various mediums, including acrylic painting, oil, mixed media, sculpting, and metal sculpting. She appreciates the sharp contrast of black and white with splashes of color and metallics. Like most artists, she wishes for people to look at her paintings and feel the emotions they encapsulate. Her philosophy when painting is that life can often feel gray, or black and white, but as we go through life, it’s the splashes of color that stand out.
